People look east
the time is near.
At the Crowning of the Year
Make your house fair as you are able
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People look East and sing today
Love the Guest is on the Way.
I love that song.
It's one of a few pre-Christmas carols that an imaginative choir director will insert during advent to mix it up instead of singing "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" again. Not that I have anything against "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." In fact, I know at least 4 verses of it. I always hear it in my mind in my father's warm tenor.
Anyway, back to People Look East. It's words were written in 1928, but it's tune is much older: a French carol called "Besancon"It's the perfect Preparing for Christmas song for me. The tune bounces with optimism, with a beat you could sweep floors or wax furniture to. It helps me remember why I'm doing all this shopping and working on these projects. It also reminds me that I haven't waxed the furniture in far too long.
I'm going to do 4 posts: 1 of each verse, with pictures to match.
These beautiful floral arrangements were created and photographed by Sarah Ryhanen of Saipua.
Her blog is here.
She also regularly writes floral arranging tips for Design Sponge. lovely, lovely, lovely.
I also love "People Look East" -- we sing it lots at our house! Other favorite Advent hymns in the Novack home: O Come Devine Messiah, Comfort Comfort O My People, and Come Thou Long Expected Jesus! Have a very blessed Advent, Joanna!!
